In my case, I am very sure my root password is correct because I double checked it via mysql command line and the mysql database is being used daily (by several C# programs I wrote). (and yes, I have read Simon Tan's posts/references too) I have searched the web forums but to no avail: all the resolution seems to point to a mis-typed/forgotten root password or a problematic MySQL installation. WebMatrix automatically sets this collation if it installs MySQL. If you are transferring a MySQL database, ensure that MySQL has default collation of UTF-8. Click 'Validate Connection' to verify that WebMatrix can connect to the database. The error message is simply "password for user account 'root' is not valid, or failed to connect to the database server." Check that the username and password in the database connection string in Publish Settings is correct. But when following the tutorial at andĪt step 4, after choosing WordPress, it detected MySQL but fails when I give it the root password. I downloaded WebMatrix 3 to try as I read very good things about it. My development PC is running Win7 64-bit with an existing MySQL 5.5 64-bit hosting several databases.
